Pop Up Shops, Vintage Fashion and Sustainability

We hope to run into you at one of the many pop-up shops and markets going on this fall! Shopping at markets and pop-up shops is one way to support small businesses - plus it’s about the experience of walking through a market space, meeting the shop owner, mingling with other shoppers, perusing through unique pieces of clothing you may not find anywhere else. Usually there is music and sometimes snacks are involved. It’s a way to build community.

Overall we’re pleased with the trend towards more conscious shopping. By supporting small and POC-owned businesses and retail outlets that support social choices that align with their own, consumers are making more conscious decisions when shopping these days.

Another way consumers are showing they are more conscious-this time, environmentally-is by recycling clothing and shopping at thrift stores or vintage boutiques. One option for a vintage clothing boutique found at pop-up shops and markets is Happy Flores, a shop owned by Latina Vintage Curator, Stylist & Community Organizer Yeleny Rivera-Flores. Happy Flores features cleverly combined vintage pieces that are ready to buy and ready to wear. Not only is this an environmentally friendly option but also extremely stylish – think reptile handbags, velvet flare pants, faux leather shirt jackets, and platform heels – to name a few.

Coming up is her pop-up at Femme Fatale on September 24th!
